At the beginning of this month, Dries Van Noten presented his one hundredth catwalk show. The fashion designer from Antwerp is one of the last big names who has not been swallowed up by one of the monster companies in the fashion industry.

In this documentary, he admits that the rat race has exhausted him. It is (apparently) impossible to skip a season, so he sees no remedy for this exhaustion other than "suffering through it". Another memorable confession is that this perfectionist sees every single mistake, so he is not always the happiest person. He has resigned himself to it.

Dries Van Noten is rarely the focus of attention himself, which makes this well-groomed documentary relevant almost automatically. On the other hand, I saw no compelling reasons to see it in the cinema. A moving addition is the archival footage from the 99 previous catwalk shows on Van Noten's website. His years of persevering creativity and stubborn craftsmanship are very impressive.
