It’s been a troubled autumn for sexists. The fall of Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein has coincided with several films that tackle sexism.

Numéro une is one of them. Emmanuelle Devos plays a businesswoman who is aiming to break through to the top of the French business world. That is always accompanied by intrigues, but Devos’s character is also confronted with everyday sexism and macho culture. This tame, half-thriller might have been an exciting, whole thriller, but the timing is perfect.
