The fact that Rodin, a film about the heyday of the French sculptor who died one hundred years ago, is in the official selection at Cannes, is a classic case of French chauvinism.
It is not that Vincent Lindon’s performance or the Belgian Christophe Beaucarne’s cinematography is bad, but the film has a weak script and its dialogues flirt with the ridiculous. Director Doillon tries to teach the audience something, but offers us not much more than an elevated form of school television. You’re better off visiting the exhibition.
