Excellent news for everyone who enjoyed La La Land: this summer, Flagey is reprising five films by Vincente Minnelli.
Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone are amateurs compared to Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron in An American in Paris (1951), with its timeless music by George Gershwin and vibrant Technicolor hues. Refined aesthetics and memorable song and dance numbers are also the great assets of Gigi (1958), which won no fewer than nine Oscars.
But Minnelli is more than his musicals, as he proved with Lust for Life (1956), starring Kirk Douglas as Vincent van Gogh, and The Sandpiper (1965), a sultry romantic drama starring Richard Burton and Liz Taylor.
