Music: Binker & Moses
Binker & Moses
Their name sounds like they are two cartoon characters with biblical features, and they look like two street thugs who are obsessed with rap, but Binker & Moses actually make pure jazz.
Saxophonist Binker Golding and drummer Moses Boyd learned their craft as part of the band of promising young British jazz singer Zara McFarlane. They recently released their second album, Journey to the Mountain of Forever, an ambitious double album that exudes the spirit of both John Coltrane and Led Zeppelin, and blends hip-hop feel into the mix.
Drum prodigy Boyd opens the evening with his Moses Boyd Exodus, featuring, among others, Theon Cross from Shabaka Hutchings’s Sons of Kemet on tuba. Jazz is no longer just for the purists. Woohoo!
