The Midsummer Mozartiade starts this Sunday at Théâtre des Martyrs. A fourth edition rich in concerts, lectures and recitals to celebrate the iconic composer’s most revered classics.

An initiative of non-profit association Amadeus & Co., Midsummer Mozartiade is a breath of fresh air in opera's traditionally dry summer programming.

Once again, Théâtre des Martyrs will host the festival that kicks-off on June 30th with Die Entführung aus dem Serail (The Abduction from the Seraglio), masterpiece in three acts composed in 1781. One of the earliest productions in German-speaking opera, it premiered in Vienna in 1782 quickly becoming Mozart's most popular work of his lifetime.

Afterwards, a week full of events, ranging from classical music to exhibitions and variety shows, awaits music lovers of all ages and life paths.

Honorary Brusseleir

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart sojourned in Brussels in 1763, while touring Europe with his family. Only seven years old at the time, the natural-born talent was already acclaimed for his first symphonies.

Two letters written by his father, Leopold, describe the Mozarts’ visit to the City Hall and Bruegel’s tomb in the church of Notre-Dame-de-la-Chapelle.

Too early to admire the Théâtre des Martyrs, which saw the light a decade later. At the right time, to unleash his musical genius that is worth to be (re-) discovered. Even during the hottest days of the year.
