Cinematek is presenting a tribute to Jeanne Moreau, the French singer and actress who passed away this summer.
Moreau was a nouvelle vague all of her own. Ascenseur pour l’Échafaud by Louis Malle revealed her talent and her sensuality. Her fame only grew when Les Amants by the same Louis Malle caused scandal due to some nude scenes. The modernity of her acting was gripping, and that is precisely what the directors of the nouvelle vague were looking for, with François Truffaut as the great pioneer.
Moreau also collaborated with Orson Welles, Luis Buñuel, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, and many others. We’ll enjoy la vague Moreau for many more years to come.
