At almost sixty, Tom Cruise is pretending to be the best jet fighter pilot in the world. Weird and yet Top Gun: Maverick is the popcorn film of the spring. He reprises his character from Top Gun, the 1980s hit that made him a world star.
Maverick has to swallow a few jokes about his age but proves to the young guard that no one pilots deadly fighter jets better than he does. The air ballets created by Joseph Kosinski, the technical genius behind TRON: Legacy and Oblivion, are just as spectacular as those of predecessor Tony Scott, and significantly more straightforward. Old school entertainment.
