Six years ago, six hip hop-minded women put their heads together. The matter at hand? Organising a release party for Anattitude Magazine. The magazine focuses on everything going on in and around the hip-hop scene, and does so from a feminine perspective. So MC JoBee invited DJs MikiGold, Fatoosan, Young Mocro, Vaneeshua, and photographer Lizairo to get together. The fact that these ladies had never met before was no problem. They quickly felt united in a common cause. Supafly Collective was born. And then the Supafly parties started coming thick and fast, with special guests and exhibits, but in the meantime each of the members continued to work on their own career. MikiGold and Fatoosan often tour together and are invited to play DJ sets across the country. JoBee continued to tinker with her band, exploring the worlds of jazz and dance, and cross-fertilising all these genres. As a collective, they were also often invited to perform at events in and far outside Brussels. In the meantime, they also filled their weekly Supafly show on FM Brussel with MCs, DJs, and of course tons of music. Thanks to all these projects, the Supafly parties went quiet for a while, and so we’re supa-happy that the gang has found some time to rock Le Tavernier again. The guest on Saturday is DJ Odilon, one of the most innovative turntablists in Brussels. He uses record players as an instrument and has thus won several big competitions both at home and abroad. At Le Tavernier, he will provide JoBee with all the requisite beats and pieces. They have been collaborating with each other for some time, so we are very curious to see the results.
