Humanity, nature, and their occasionally destructive relationship are the central themes in the hybrid work – including sculptures, installations, and drawings – by French artist David Décamp. There is a good reason for that: Décamp grew up in the woods, where as a 23-year-old lumberjack/pruner, he lost his leg when a falling tree crushed it. During his long period of inactive convalescence, art became his faithful companion. The materials he uses all refer to this turning point in his life. His slow artistic practice produces works that are both poetic and critical of our own destructive nature.
