A lower-middle class family in Brazil struggles to keep its head above water.

The nature of their problems doesn’t really matter. Director Gustavo Pizzi primarily aims to highlight the courage and life wisdom with which the mother engages in the sometimes chaotic daily struggle.

Pizzi is rather paternalistic in the way he instructs his viewers what to think and feel. But Karine Teles saves the day with her extraordinary performance. She expresses conflicting and complex emotions that do not leave you indifferent.
