Glenn Close plays a woman who never received the recognition she deserves in a film that doesn’t give her what she deserves
Director Björn Runge forgot that he was working for the big screen, and Jonathan Pryce’s character is problematically one-dimensional. He plays a Nobel Prize winner and an unfaithful cad, Close plays his wife who has been getting him out of trouble for decades. Even Meryl Streep could learn from the body language through which she betrays how difficult it sometimes is to play the wife.
