“We both tried to make the same record, and the Flamin’ Groovies’ one is better,” Mick Jagger said in 1971 about their album Teenage Head, three weeks before The Stones released Sticky Fingers.

Jagger might have been a little bit too kind, but fifty years ago, the Flamin’ Groovies rocked just as hard as their kindred spirits did on this side of the ocean. Since then, the band from LA has gone through more members than Mick Jagger has had women, and the group has disbanded several times.

Since last year, however, the Flamin’ Groovies have been touring again, including with original members Cyril Jordan and Roy Loney. To quote the Stones once again, we’re out of our heads!
