How amazing it was to see Talib Kweli perform with his friend Yasiin Bey (aka Mos Def) as Black Star again last summer at Jazz Middelheim in Antwerp. In contrast to twenty years ago, their conscientious, jazz-, soul-, and reggae-infused hip hop is now described as visionary.

Even solo, Talib Kweli is still the committed prisoner of conscious that makes him beloved in both academic and literary circles – his mother is an English professor – as well as on the street.

On his eighth solo album, Radio Silence, which was released last autumn, the erudite, articulate American ghetto philosopher still alternates between activism and militantism, heart and underbelly.
