“Twas in the merry month of May / When green buds all were swelling,” Joan Baez sang in 1958 in the legendary coffee shop Club 47 in Cambridge.

Sixty (!) years later, the iconic Californian folk singer and activist is bidding farewell to the stage in her Fare Thee Well Tour. Think of the time that she sang “We Shall Overcome” during the March on Washington, beside Martin Luther King, of the time that she sang “With God on Our Side” with her very young lover Bob Dylan at the Newport Folk Festival in 1963, and of the time that she told the hippies at Woodstock about Joe Hill, and come to the realization that Joan Baez is the mother of all protest singers. You can’t get any closer to May ’68 than this 21 May.
