You might think that urban culture has become mainstream. We see it and hear it everywhere, on TV, in fashion, and in the charts. But it’s worth exploring the original breeding-ground of that creative explosion.

The multidisciplinary festival Lezarts Urbains will fill several venues in Brussels with rap, dance, slam, and film. The programme is mostly made up of work by Belgian artists such as Darrell Cole, but also features some from further afield, such as the eccentric Senegalese duo from the Journal Rappé and, under the heading Ghetto Mondial, a great night of cumbia, kuduro, and Afro-futurism.
