For fifteen years, Macy Gray has stubbornly been doing her own thing in a showbusiness world that jumps from trend to hype to fad and back.

Two years after releasing Stripped, which was recorded live in a church with a small band, the neo-soul diva with her voice of abrasive velvet is coming to La Madeleine to present her new album, Ruby.

In her own words, that record is “excellent ear candy” that is at once poppy, jazzy, and “gritty and grimy”.

Ruby does not match up to the raw aesthetic of Stripped, but it is not over-polished either. According to Spill Magazine: “Whoever says music has lost all soul clearly has never heard Macy Gray’s new album.”
