Funk, soul, and disco are timeless music genres, and they return in a new form at least once every decade. Australian FREEKWENCY is one of the artists dressing the genres up in a new and lively outfit at the moment.

FREEKWENCY is inspired by the electronic funk and soul of the 1980s. Even as a teenager he collected obscure records from that period, which he would then turn into mix tapes. Later on, he got behind the panel in his own studio and started brewing his own version of the sexy and often slick boogie from the period. Incidentally, he also does this under the name Benny Badge, and you’ll often find him on productions by his childhood friend Inkswel. Keyboards have never sounded as sexy as they are in his hands. If you’re curious, you can discover his sound on his Secret Heat website. At the SoulTherapy party at Club Clandestin (formerly The Marquee), which opened last year, he’ll be sharing the turntables with Billy Palmier. You may already know him from his great disco productions on the Brussels-based On-Point label. An evening of smoothness. Guaranteed.
