Billed as the first Grand Bal de Bruxelles, Youssou N’Dour and his band Super Étoile de Dakar will perform a two-hour-long selection from their rich oeuvre of Senegalese world vocals.

In his homeland, “The Nightingale of Dakar”, who is descended from a line of griots, is sometimes called “The King of Mbalax”, after the style in which local rhythms are blended with rock, jazz, and Caribbean music.

The rest of the planet was introduced to him in 1986, when he contributed both to Peter Gabriel’s So and to Paul Simon’s Graceland. It then took about seven seconds for the committed citizen of the world to become world famous.
