Party Tip: 10 Years Los Ninos

A lot has happened in the Los Ninos family over the past ten years. The parties popped up in the strangest places (a metro station! an old swimming pool! Antwerp!), DJs from distant lands flew in and returned home full of admiration, and brother and sister parties like Vicuna, FingerSpitzenGefühl, and – the most recent concoction – Les Bals were organised.
The parties aren’t only famous for their excellent – and idiosyncratic – choice of musical acts, the audiences also make an important contribution to the parties’ atmosphere. Our guess is that an organiser couldn’t want for a more enthusiastic dancing mob. For their tenth anniversary party, Los Ninos has invited two people who are linked to LCD Soundsystem’s commander-in-chief James Murphy’s DFA label. After releasing a number of singles on Murphy’s record label, Irish producer and deejay Shit Robot released his first full-length album From the Cradle to the Rave in 2010. His warm electro-disco is supplied with vocals by Alexis Taylor (Hot Chip), Planningtorock, The Juan MacLean, Murphy himself, and Nancy Whang. The latter has herself been featured on songs by LCD Soundsystem, The Juan MacLean, and Soulwax, and you’ll also find her on the brand-new album from Shit Robot, We Got a Love. He has extended his space- and Italo-disco on the record. His songs are each furnished with a funky house beat that is very difficult to ignore on the dance floor. The second DFA name is not so well known, though we strongly suspect that will change soon, with the release of Dan Bodan’s first album. The Berlin-based Canadian makes wonderfully swaying synth-pop that balances somewhere between Junior Boys and Jamie Woon. Just listen to his fantastic EP Aaron / D.P. and the singles “Anonymous” and “Hunger Games”. His live set starts at midnight. The party will be wrapped up by local deejays Fais Le Beau and Bruce Botnik. If this party isn’t a delirious frenzy, then we don’t know what is. Cheers, Los Ninos!
