Alessandro Sciarroni at Les Halles: dizzying

Throughout his show, the Italian choreographer and dancer Alessandro Sciarroni never stops spinning. For him, it’s a way of resisting time and of opening himself as much as possible to everything around him.

The idea for this rotation came to him when he was thinking about migration. Both human migration and that of animals who leave and return again to the same place.

But you shouldn’t look for a precise meaning. Sciarroni also rejects any resemblance to the spiritual experience of the whirling dervishes, even if, over and above a performance, one could read this solo as a fascinating physical meditation.
