Commemorations of the Great War have been continuing throughout the year.

The ambitious and occasionally impressive French film Au revoir là-haut also explores the hell of the First World War, but it primarily focuses on the picturesque, energetically told story of an eventful friendship between two dirt poor war veterans (an accountant and an illustrator whose face is half blown off) who try to find their place in the aftermath of the horrific conflict.
