At 82 years old, Judi Dench can still carry an entire feature film all by herself. She gives a face and a heart to the British Queen Victoria, who becomes friends with Abdul, a Muslim from India.
Masterful director Stephen Frears (The Queen, Florence Foster Jenkins) knows how to entertain big crowds with a good story. The film is not particularly profound and the character of Abdul is rather two-dimensional. But this film is a gem for whoever loves watching the brilliant Judi Dench.
