In L’atelier, Laurent Cantet focuses on young people in contemporary France.

An employment bureau commissions a successful author from Paris to run a writing workshop for young people from La Ciotat, the port town near Marseille that has been suffering since the collapse of the shipbuilding industry. The author clashes with one of her students: a loner who chocks with his far-right ideas and fascination with violence. We recommend this intelligent and socially committed film.
