Oriol Vilanova: greetings from oblivion

The artist Oriol Vilanova, who has lived in Brussels for some years past, won last year’s Art’Contest, an annual competition for contemporary artists based in Belgium who are under 35 years of age. His exhibition at the Museum of Elsene/Ixelles perfectly complements his first solo show at the M museum in Leuven. In “At First Sight”, he explores the role of the curator, as well as that of the artist, questioning the very idea of exhibiting. Among other material, he presents 35 empty museum showcases and an artistic composition put together from the 2,800 picture postcards he has saved from oblivion at junk sales over the years.
