Hanging veils in organza silk, thousands of little points scattered across a glass plate, scrolls of black paint applied to some of the gallery’s windows, cloth from which certain threads have been patiently pulled out in order to create a form of gingham by extraction, some dried poppies... The means employed by Lionel Estève – an artist from Lyons who has been based in Brussels for many years now – in this exhibition are simple but effective. The unpredictable irregularity of an abstract, airy pointillism creates vibrations one can almost feel. Colour, shimmering in the breeze, spread by natural light, invades the space and surrounds the viewer’s body. The visible plays hide-and-seek behind a woman’s hair, behind a curtain. A delightful immersion in colour, a delicate experience imbued with sensuality.
