This autumn, the Canadian “hard-rock ‘n’ roll trio” Danko Jones will be squarely in the limelight. Their DVD Bring on the Mountain was released last summer, the book Too Much Trouble: A Very Oral History of Danko Jones hits the shops soon, and their sixth studio album Rock and Roll Is Black and Blue is out now.

Rock and Roll Is Black and Blue rock (Bad Taste Records)
So now that the darkest days are approaching you have plenty of choice, especially if you like to slake yourself on a protein-rich diet of no-nonsense riffs. The rhythms are thumping and tense, but there is little variation. There are actually only two servings. There are the whoppers of middle fingers in line with the band’s angry, merciless, old school party sound, like “I Don’t Care”, “Conceited”, and “Don’t Do This”. And then there are the whoppers of middle fingers that are often equally angry and merciless, but which occasionally slow the tempo and emphasise the melodies slightly more. The blasphemous “I Believed In God”, which begins with a veritable gospel choir, is still credible, but crude FM rock songs “Type of Girl” or “Always Away” tarnish the reputation of Danko Jones, who can’t sustain their uppercut for a whole forty minutes.
