Andres Serrano's controversial worldview

American photographer Andres Serrano wanted to play all his cards, so his first major retrospective is almost exhaustive and features all his most controversial and explicit works (some of which are behind a curtain).

Andres Serrano's Piss Christ was intended to show his Christian neighbours that crucifixion is no joke. And though it may sound crazy, there is not only beauty but also compassion in his razor-sharp images of the human body and all its fluids. Some of his series are set in mortuaries, while others refer to torture techniques or show members of the Ku Klux Klan or homeless people.

No theme is too rough for this ex-drug addicted Bob Dylan fan. Not even Donald Trump. His supporters can’t stand Serrano, but in his America series, the presidential candidate shines like never before.
