Wiels rocks once again in its current exhibition devoted to Allen Ruppersberg, one of the leading lights of US conceptual art, which aims to make connections between art and life. Ruppersberg uses comic strips, magazines, newspapers, and posters in his work in order to take an almost sociological look at our (consumer) society. For Wiels, he delved into his vast archive of rock ‘n’ roll memorabilia and came up with some 3,000 items, from obituaries to album sleeves. These have been arranged according to five themes to tell the story of rock ‘n’ roll. Under the heading of “Religion”, for example, you can see an obituary for Johnny Cash, photographs of a choir singing, and photocopies of a hymn book. The handsome resulting exhibition is enlivened by a selection of 127 tracks. At last: an exhibition with a soundtrack!
