For more than 35 years, the Espace Photographique Contretype in Brussels has been supporting creative photography. Since 1997, some 23 international photographers have had the opportunity to retreat to Contretype’s splendid art nouveau building and to reflect in peace and quiet on their own artistic practice, while also making new work that relates in some way or other to their new geographical setting: Brussels. For the first time, the Centrale for Contemporary Art is bringing together more than 150 works that emerged from those artistic residencies in a single exhibition. Among others, Bernard Plossu, JH Engström, Elina Brotherus, and André Cepeda, as well as Belgian photographers such as François Goffin, Philippe Herbet, and Chantal Maes let you have a look at their highly individual encounters with the city and its inhabitants.
