The fourth edition of the Summer of Photography has been kicked off! One of the biggest treats this year – though there are many – is to be found at the Centre for Fine Arts, where “Sense of Place” is showing spectacular work by 40 photographers from all around Europe. “Sense of Place” presents their visions of both the urban and natural landscape.
Every year, the Summer of Photography inspires Bozar to organise a Bozar Photography Award. Over 300 photographers participated in this year’s award, by sending in three works inspired by the theme of the landscape. The jury, consisting of photographer Carl De Keyzer, Maarten Goossens from NIKON, Erik Derycke from PhotoMagazine Shoot, Luk Lambrecht from CC Strombeek, and Christophe De Jaeger from Bozar selected three winners who will be showing their work at the Centre for Fine Arts. The first prize has been awarded to Dieter De Lathauwer from Ghent. His rock formations balance on the edge of dream and reality and direct our wondering eye to far more than a tangible landscape. The other winners are Pablo Castilla and Fernando Benitez Bella. Pablo Castilla’s pictures show his birthplace, the Costa Tropical in the south of Spain, in a loving way, but marked by absurdity and economic loss. Fernando Benitez Bella presents a work from the series Cliffs of Moher, showing impressive rock formations along the Irish coast.
