The boroughs of Oudergem/Auderghem, Watermaal-Bosvoorde/Watermael-Boitsfort and Sint-Pieters-Woluwe/Woluwe-Saint-Pierre count a lot of expats among their inhabitants. In order to reach speakers of other languages, the local Flemish community centres Den Dam, WaBo, and Kontakt have joined forces to launch “Glad to Meet You”, a programme of courses and cultural activities organised in English.

So what is on offer? Well, if you like shaking a leg to some exotic rhythms, you can let your hair down at a course of Latin American zumba or dabke, a popular Palestinian dance. Children can choose between capoeira and zumba. If you would prefer something more tranquil, you can take part in a guided walk to the Rood Klooster/Rouge-Cloître (24 March), a walk in the forest (Zoniënwoud/Forêt de Soignes, 28 April), or one through the green zones of the borough of Oudergem/Auderghem (5 May). Maybe Belgium’s reputation for beer was one of the reasons why you moved to Brussels? If so, the beer-tasting led by the director of the Belgian Brewers (19 April) is an opportunity not to be missed to get to know our best, traditional beers. You will find the full programme, with all practical details, on the websites of the three centres involved, under the heading “Glad to Meet You”.
