Today at 7 pm, the Brussels Film Festival will be opening doors for the tenth time. Undoubtedly, the screening of The Deep Blue Sea, Monday evening, will be the highlight of the festival. An outstanding Rachel Weisz is playing the wife of a British judge. She seems to have signed up for a life without passion, but falls head over heels in love with an untrustworthy pilot, who, after World War II, is struggling to find his place in a tired, hypocritical society. Our prediction is not that daring, since the film is directed by the critically acclaimed English filmmaker Terence Davies. Film buffs tend to get sentimental over the fact that he has had so little opportunity to build up an oeuvre, and rightly so, after having made excellent films like Distant Voices, Still Lives or The House of Mirth. Davies is one of the guests that the festival is welcoming, and you can be there too. We're giving away 10 pairs of tickets for the screening of 11 June at 7.30 pm at Flagey, in the presence of the director. E-mail "davies" to win@bdw.be, but be quick!
