Cinéma Inch'Allah !

L’histoire de Farid, Noon, Mohamed et Reda est poignante. Allez voir ce film ! Ça ne suffit pas pour vous convaincre ? C’est que je ne veux pas réduire en quelques phrases tout le travail de Vincent Coen et Guillaume Vandenberghe, réalisateurs spécialisés en documentaires. Les grandes lignes alors ? Cinéma Inch’Allah ! est le portrait de quatre Bruxellois passionnés par le cinéma. Depuis vingt ans, faire un film n’est plus un rêve : ils en ont réalisé plus de trente. De la comédie d’action au film d’horreur. Avec une touche toute personnelle. Ainsi, Farid confronte son paternel à une scène où un père veut imposer un mari à sa fille. Nous voyons les quatre amis rentrer dans un vidéoclub pour demander de distribuer USM, leur comédie d’action sur une équipe d’agents marocains qui viennent aider la police belge. Le méchant qui veut faire exploser la Bourse s’avère être un Belge frustré déguisé en terroriste musulman. Nous suivons la préparation et le tournage de Jamal Disco 2, avec Reda en flic disco. Ils n’ont pas d’argent alors ils se tuent à la tâche après leurs heures de boulot. Mais les années commencent à peser et le doute s’installe. Noon travaille comme coursier sur les tournages professionnels, mais cela ne calme pas ses appétits artistiques. Mohamed est devenu acteur et se demande si travailler gratuitement est vraiment une bonne idée. Reda bosse au CPAS de Bruxelles mais est un acteur-né. Farid, le réalisateur, se retrouve dans le pire des pétrins. Dans ses films, tout finit toujours bien pour le héros, mais lui a l’impression d’être le pauvre type qui se fait coffrer à la fin. Ces quatre-là laissent voir une part de leur âme. Qui en fera autant ?

Een film maken is voor Farid, Noon, Mohamed en Reda al twintig jaar geen droom meer. Ze hebben er meer dan dertig gedraaid. Van actiekomedie tot horrorfilm. Mét persoonlijke toets. Zo confronteerde Farid zijn vader met een scène over een vader die zijn dochter een echtgenoot wil opleggen. We zien de vrienden een videotheek binnenstappen met de vraag om USM te verdelen, hun actiekomedie over een team Marokkaanse agenten dat de Belgische politie komt helpen. De slechterik die de Beurs wou opblazen blijkt een als moslimterrorist verklede, misnoegde Belg te zijn. We zien de voorbereiding en de opnames van Jamal Disco 2 met Reda als discoflik. Geld is er niet dus werken ze zich na de uren te pletter. Maar de jaren beginnen te wegen en de twijfel slaat toe. Noon heeft een baan als loopjongen op professionele filmsets en dat stilt zijn artistieke honger niet. Mohamed heeft van acteren zijn beroep gemaakt en vraagt zich af of gratis werken wel een goed idee is. Reda werkt voor het OCMW van Brussel maar is een echte speler. In de zwaarste storm komt regisseur Farid terecht. In zijn films loopt het altijd goed af voor de held maar zelf voelt hij zich de stumper die op het einde opgepakt wordt. Alle vier laten ze een glimp van hun ziel zien. Wie doet het hen na?

But Farid, Noon, Mohamed, and Reda haven’t just been sitting around thinking about filmmaking for twenty years – they have already made more than thirty. From action comedies to horror films, with a personal touch. For example, Farid confronted his father with a scene about a man who wants to force his daughter to marry someone. We see the friends dropping into a video rental shop to ask if it will distribute USM, their action comedy about a team of Moroccan policemen who come to help out the Belgian force. The baddy who wanted to blow up the Beurs/Bourse turns out to be a disgruntled Belgian disguised as a Muslim terrorist. We see the pre-production and filming of Jamal Disco 2 starring Reda as a disco cop. They have no money, so they all have regular jobs and work their asses off after hours. But their hard work starts getting to them and they begin to doubt themselves. Noon works as an errand runner on professional film sets, but it does not satisfy his artistic hunger. Mohamed has made a career out of acting and wonders whether working for free is really such a great idea. Reda works for the social services in Brussels but is a born actor. Director Farid battles the fiercest storms. His films always end well for the hero, but he feels more like the poor wretch who gets arrested at the end. All four of them allow us a glimpse into their souls. Who will follow their lead?
