The celebrated Chadian director Mahamat-Saleh Haroun has lived in France for the past 35 years but has only just made his first film in his host country.

Ériq Ebouaney plays an asylum seeker who lost his wife and is trying to settle outside Paris to live a normal life with his two young children. The problem is that France is not a very hospitable country. Problems with the film’s pacing and a didactic script dented our enthusiasm, but this film does give the asylum seeker a voice, a face, and an honest story.
