Bozar Electronic Arts Festival: Artful Dodgers

The Bozar Electronic Music Festival has become the Bozar Electronic Arts Festival. AGENDA has selected four highlights.

1. Olivia Block, Luis Recoder, Sandra Gibson (20/9, 20.00)
The work of musician Olivia Block and filmmakers Sandra Gibson and Luis Recoder has previously been shown at the Tate Modern, the Whitney Museum, and at the Sundance Film Festival. Their light and sound sculptures provide a – literally – quivering audio-visual experience that blurs the boundary between perception and cinema.

2. Howse (21/9, 0.00)
On his latest album, Lay Hollow, 22-year-old Nathaniel Oak combines raw sounds from the rainforest (i.e., the jungle) with frenetic beats and more contemplative soundscapes. As the wizard of chaos, Howse dishes out alienating sucker punches on the state-of-the-art label Tri Angle Records, which also accommodates the fantastic Holy Other.

3. Maja Ratkje + HC Gilje (22/9, 20.00)
Norwegian voice artist Maja Ratkje has practised her world renowned voice box to perfection in numerous disciplines: she has collaborated with musicians in the noise and electronica scene, dancers, theatre producers, and filmmakers. Her concert at the Centre for Fine Arts will take place in the middle of a light installation by a fellow Norwegian, the visual artist HC Gilje.

4. Joanie Lemercier: Eyjafjallajökull (20 > 22/9)
French visual artist Joanie Lemercier, co-founder of the AntiVJ label, has previously made visuals for Flying Lotus. He has now been inspired by the Icelandic volcano. Using subtle lighting effects, he reveals a finely layered landscape on which he can indulge his obsession with geometry and minimalism, totally confusing our senses.
