The Autumn Falls festival has lined up some very exciting names this year. Here are some of our tips. First up: DIIV!
Z(achary) Cole Smith, a talented guitar strummer from Brooklyn, is coming to Autumn Falls to prove that his eclectic experiments have outgrown his bedroom. He will do so with the DIIV quartet, the former Dive. In deference to our countryman Dirk Ivens, who is releasing his industrial under the same name, they opted for a new spelling (though the pronunciation remains the same). Fortunately, this has had no effect on the dreamy and infectious pop melodies of their debut Oshin, which allies a gripping new wave atmosphere – including the Cure guitar sections – to introspective shoegaze vocals and krautrock. It is impressive how Smith simultaneously sounds so vague and so captivating.
