(Uphill Sound)

Now that the activities on the VUB campus are back in full swing, the festivities can flourish once more. The programme of the KultuurKaffee is certainly pulling its weight. Reggae lovers can already go on Saturday for a brand-new concept dubbed Kingston Kaffee – an original name that masks an original joint venture. Three of the best-known sound systems from Brussels have joined forces: Uphill Sound, Ivory Sound, and Jugglin’ Discotheque promise vibes imported straight from Jamaica. They perform everything from rocksteady and roots reggae to rub-a-dub and dancehall, calling on national and international colleagues to assist them. For the first edition, they have invited the Antwerp-based dancehall kings (and one queen) Civalizee Foundation. The latter have won several international sound clashes and are undoubtedly among the best of the Belgian sound system scene. Bass Culture, on the other hand, is putting Brussels on the reggae map with its excellent record collection. What’s more, Uphill Sound will prove that after thirteen years, they still know what to play at a party. They are already getting audiences excited for international acts like Postman, The Gladiators, and The Skatalites, and have been playing the best tunes on their immensely popular radio show on FM Brussel for years. Kingston Kaffee is off to a great start. Peace! And lots of love.

Kingston Kaffee 27/10, 22.00, free (before 23.00), €5/8, KultuurKaffee, Pleinlaan 2 boulevard de la Plaine, Elsene/Ixelles
