Young Belgian record labels are finding their way abroad more easily these days. This is certainly true of Silverback Recordings, which was founded in 2010. They are specialised in a variety of electronic music, where ghetto-tech, UK bass, garage, electro-boogie, house, and other variants meet. They also know how to snare the right artists, like Jack Dixon for example, who has now climbed up to the widely respected Hotflush label. Or Nguzunguzu, who was picked up by FACT Magazine for one of their popular FACT Mixes. For their label night at Mr Wong, they are bringing The Phantom from Poland to Brussels. The diversity he brings to his music is perhaps the best reflection of Silverback’s eclectic character. His EPs could hardly be accused of monotony, and his DJ sets are the same, mixing hip bass and old-school house with Giorgio Moroder and Laurie Anderson. You can say the same of Jean Nipon, who initially started as a drummer in a hard-core band, later mixed Prince, Aphex Twin, and KRS-One as a DJ, made crazy 8-bit electro with Gameboys, and is nowadays most specialised in the new generation of house, bass, and techno variants.
There’s a fun little extra: the Englishman Samename, who was recently signed by the hip, Brussels-based label Pelican Fly. This is talent you should listen to with suspicious ears. Silverback servant Voltron will warm up the crowd for this packed evening. We definitely recommend extra dextrose.

Silverback Rec. presents: Jean Nipon, Samename, The Phantom, Voltron 31/5, 23.00, €7, Mr Wong, Zwarte Lievevrouwstraat 12 rue de la Vièrge Noire, Brussel/Bruxelles
