Party Tip: Vicuna

We were impressed by a number of 100% Silk’s acts during the label night at the Ancienne Belgique in May. The American label is run by Amanda Beth Brown, better known as LA Vampires. In addition to Peaking Lights’s spellbinding dubby electro, Ital and Magic Touch also especially gave us an intoxicating high. They are the solo projects of Daniel Martin-McCormick and Damon Palermo, respectively. They have been releasing music together under the name Mi Ami for quite some time. Profoundly influenced by psychedelia and post punk, they easily weave ten minute long tracks that keep you on the dance floor in a long trance. But their own projects don’t really sound like average dance music either. Earlier this year, Ital released Hive Mind, an alienating and sexy record, and last year Magic Touch released the 12” “I Can Feel the Heat”, completely suffused with disco and 1980s and 1990s house. Dance that’s off the wall, but no less fun because of it. At the Vicuna party, Magic Touch is being accompanied by the renowned resident DJs Aguila and Walrus. What’s more, it will be one of the last parties in the beautiful Magic Mirrors hall of mirrors, which is closing for good on 1 December. In other words, don’t miss it!
