TRAAMS, a trio from Chichester in England, shows a passion for indie rock on its edgy but joyful first album. Post-punk in orientation, Grin offers eleven songs with the foot down on the distortion pedal.

Grin rock (Fat Cat/Konkurrent)

The British group – guitar, bass, and drums – offers plenty of melody throughout: the electric shocks administered along the way never prevent the refrains from emerging from the fray. Led by the spectral voice of Stuart Hopkins, the group serves up tracks marked by a contagious hysteria (“Flowers”, “Loose”), while also bawling out some epic choruses (on “Swimming Pool” and “Fibbist”). Cooked up on the embers of indie rock, these little homemade hits draw on ideas from the past (Pavement, Wire, Television, Fugazi) with a view to seducing the
present. Potential rivals of Parquet Courts on a track like “Sleep”, TRAAMS emerge as serious challengers to Suuns when they launch into the mechanical and absolutely hypnotic rhythms of “Klaus”. A solid dose of adrenaline, well worth discovering.
