Celebrations for jazz legend Thelonious Monk's 100th birthday

Jazz legend Thelonious Monk was born on 10 October 1917 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, and later this year, great celebrations will mark the centenary.

Flagey is presenting a seven-hour Monk Marathon entitled Melodious Tonk – The Complete Monk. Marc Van den Hoof will play the complete repertoire of the eccentric and deeply influential composer and pianist. There will also be birthday cake, Wi-Fi, and even free soup for lunch. A few days earlier at Bozar, Flemish Monk fans Robin Verheyen and Bram De Looze will present a fresh look at his legacy with American drummer Joey Baron. Later this autumn, the Brussels Jazz Orchestra and pianist Jason Moran will also pay tribute.
