Nasty Bartender’s latest progeny is called The Groove Is On, a monthly party concept at Madame Moustache for which he invites national and international guests to rock the place together. His career was basically launched at this Brussels club, which opened almost five years ago. From the very beginning, he was featured on their programme with his specialisation in music from between the 1920s and 1960s. Since that time, Nasty Bartender has regularly played other Brussels music centres, and for about six months, he has also played for FM Brussel. There will be a big birthday party for Nasty Bartender on Saturday. So they are pulling out all the stops. Indeed, Keb Darge does not perform in Brussels every week. He is one of the leaders of the northern soul scene, and is universally celebrated for his compilations Deep Funk, Funk Spectrum, and Lost & Found and he single-handedly organised a number of legendary dance nights in London. Rockabilly, rhythm & blues, and 1950s and ’60s soul tracks are obsessions for this DJ and keen music collector. Finnish DJ Sampsa Vilhunen is a personal friend. Nasty met him during a trip abroad and invited him to play in Brussels last year. He generally only plays 45 and 78 speed records and blends everything in the rock ‘n’ roll, northern soul, garage, popcorn, exotica, mod jazz, and blues genres. With more than twenty years of experience, he is guaranteed to set the dance floor ablaze every time. Ghent-based DJ Diggin’ Dave and – of course – Nasty Bartender himself will provide the dancers with extra musical sustenance to get through the night. They’ll need it.

NASTY’S BIRTHDAY BASH 14/2, 22.00, €5/7, Madame Moustache, Brandhoutkaai 5-7 quai au Bois à Brûler, Brussel/Bruxelles, www.madamemoustache.be
