Summer’s almost gone, but that won’t stop Brussels’s contemporary arts scene from being bathed in a warm, sunny glow this weekend. For the tenth time, the galleries in Brussels are joining forces to showcase collectively the world-renowned dynamism, diversity, energy, and quality of the Brussels scene. Concretely, this mighty union means that no fewer than 41 contemporary art galleries will be vying for your attention.

Hopstreet Gallery, for example, is presenting the scintillating, otherworldly paintings and sculptures by Tinus Vermeersch; Office Baroque is showing the intense paintings by Sascha Braunig, where bodies disappear between figure and frame; and Bernier Eliades will introduce you to the exuberant collages by Elliott Hundley.

Xavier Hufkens is combining both its exhibition spaces for an exhibition by Tracey Emin, the well-rested epigone of the Young British Artists. And Rodolphe Janssen is showcasing two big Brussels-based talents: the South African-born AfroPunk Kendell Geers and the Iranian-born poetic lion tamer Sanam Khatibi. Harlan Levey Projects, on the other hand, is presenting the third solo show by the Polish-born Bruxellois Marcin Dudek, an exploration both of the artist’s personal background and of the psychology of the masses…that’s right, you there!

But there is much more. In addition to the galleries on the regular circuit, the Brussels Gallery Weekend has invited ten guest venues to participate, spaces that are brimming with experiment, daring, and reflection. L’iselp is curating the future, the unconventional Komplot is going for a “Vacanze in Italia”, Villa Empain is extending the exhibition “Mondialité”, and two in-situ sound installations will resound at Greylight Projects. Free shuttle services between the galleries mean that you don’t have to worry about getting lost amid the art. And if you really prefer to explore all the contemporary art in Brussels on foot, you can join one of the guided tours organised by Arkadia. So what are you waiting for? Let’s go!
