In a near future, people spend as much time as possible in a utopian virtual world called Oasis. The inventor will give his empire to the first person who finds three keys that are hidden in Oasis.
When the orphan Wade finds the first key, he gets in trouble with a CEO who will stop at nothing to become the owner of Oasis. The characters are superficial, the treasure hunt is clichéd, and the focus on a white hero is old-fashioned.
But we did enjoy the rollercoaster pacing, the non-stop action, and the clever combination of two worlds.
