Anyone passing through the Renbaanlaan/avenue de l’Hippodrome in Elsene/Ixelles might have noticed some increase in activity near the crossing with the avenue Géo Bernier. Since a few months the brand-new collective Module Image has been occupying the small space at number 67. The collective – consisting of Chris de Becker, My Atlegrim, and Loïc Gaume – intends to share its love for illustration, images, and books with the public by organising intimate exhibitions and workshops for children. This afternoon, at 3 pm, their first exhibition comes to a close. “Le bestiaire de Pascal Lemaître” sheds light on the wonderful art of Brussels artist Pascal Lemaître (1967), an illustrator of some 50 children’s books – including some with Toni Morrison, winner of the 1993 Nobel Prize for Literature – and a professor at La Cambre, who publishes regularly in The New York Times, The New Yorker, Time, Le Monde, La Libre Belgique, etc. His work is a subtle, yet very direct mix of joy, humour, tenderness, and profundity that at first sight may seem simple and straightforward, but when looking closer, reveals all of its moving and subtle details, at the same time light and profound.
And that’s exactly what Module Image is about: offering the opportunity to really look at what illustrated books, graphic works, and images have to offer those willing to take their time to look at them. So, this Wednesday afternoon, get your children prepped for a visit to the animal kingdom of Pascal Lemaître, and meet the artist!

Rencontre Pascal Lemaître 17/4, 15.00, Renbaanlaan 67 avenue de l’Hippodrome, Elsene/Ixelles, moduleimage@gmail.com, http://moduleimage.tumblr.com
