Anyone looking for “the next big thing” in Brussels’s nightlife over the past year has hopefully come across Dirty Monkey. Not only are the parties a breath of fresh air in the R&B- and techno-dominated nightlife scene, their atmosphere is also unique. The blend of hip hop, moombahton, and trap ensures that clubbers go wild to the deep beats and ecstatic drops, while a giant monkey whips up the crowd. Kay-J is the lord of the turntables. The young, hot-blooded talent plays 60 songs per hour and wipes the floor with anyone standing still. He is also accompanied by guests, sometimes from Ghent (Duuub), or Antwerp (Babybang), and even from The Netherlands. DJs Flava and Snelle Jelle were impressed. But they can blow the roof off Brussels too. And that is guaranteed to happen on the party concept’s first birthday. Bringhim Backalive will do the honours. In normal, everyday life, this Belgian with Congolese roots is called Théophore Kabeya Tama. He released his first album at 16 after putting together his first mixtape. Five years later, his SoundCloud page is full of juicy raps and fine music. Right at the top you’ll find his latest creation, “Not Alone”, which declaims the famous text by Justice vs Simian. Yet again, Bringhim Backalive compels us with an excellent production. We are your friends? Yes please!
