Rise of the Guardians

’t Is om zeep. De jongste gelooft niet meer in Sinterklaas. Hij heeft nochtans zijn best gedaan. Hij geloofde er nog in op een moment dat hij al sneller dan ik kon uitrekenen hoe oud Sinterklaas nu zou zijn als je weet dat hij in het jaar 280 geboren is. Volgens Rise of the guardians is het van cruciaal belang dat kinderen blijven geloven. Doen ze dat niet dan geven ze Pitch, beter bekend als de Boeman, vrij spel om de wereld in eeuwige duisternis onder te dompelen. Dan kunnen de Kerstman, de Paashaas, de Tandenfee en Klaas Vaak hem niet langer tegenhouden. De Beschermers van de Fantasie zijn in weinig te onderscheiden van clubjes superhelden als de Avengers of de Fantastic Four. Ondanks de vele legioenen grappige helpers als feeën, yeti’s en wandelende eieren roepen ze er Jack Vorst bij. Deze rebelse puberversie van Koning Winter is geïsoleerd geraakt en onzichtbaar geworden omdat geen kind nog in hem gelooft. Deze computeranimatiefilm – ze blijven maar uitkomen én volk lokken – komt uit de studio’s van DreamWorks Animation, net als Madagascar, Shrek, Kung Fu Panda en How to train you dragon. Visueel is alles dik in orde. Ik kan me voorstellen dat een tienjarige jongen zich ook in het avontuur, de humor en de wervelende actiescènes kan vinden. De meeste volwassenen zullen afhaken op de hyperenthousiaste kreten van de helden tijdens de zoveelste halsbrekende vlucht door de lucht.

FR -- C’est foutu. Notre cadet ne croit plus en Saint Nicolas. Il y croyait encore alors qu’il savait calculer plus vite que moi l’âge du Grand Saint sachant qu’il est né en 280. Selon Rise of the Guardians (Les Cinq Légendes), il est crucial que les enfants continuent d’y croire. Sinon, ils laissent le champ libre à Pitch, alias le Croquemitaine, pour plonger le monde dans une obscurité éternelle. Alors, le Père Noël, le Lapin de Pâques, la Fée des dents et le Marchand de sable ne pourront plus le retenir. Ces protecteurs de l’imagination se différencient peu de clubs de super-héros comme les Avengers ou les Quatre Fantastiques. Malgré leurs légions de drôles d’assistants (fées, yétis, œufs sur pattes...), ils appellent Jack Frost à la rescousse. Cette version rebelle et ado du Roi Hiver s’est retrouvée isolée et invisible parce que plus aucun enfant ne croit en lui. Ce film d’animation numérique - il en sort toujours et ils continuent d’attirer les foules - nous vient des studios de DreamWorks Animation, tout comme Madagascar, Shrek, Kung Fu Panda et Dragons. Visuellement, il n’y a rien à redire. Je peux imaginer qu’un enfant de 10 ans se retrouvera dans l’aventure, l’humour et les scènes d’action tourbillonnante. Mais la plupart des adultes décrocheront probablement aux cris hyper enthousiastes des héros lors de leur énième vol périlleux à travers les airs.

The guardians of fantasy are hardly distinguishable from superhero gangs like the Avengers or the Fantastic Four. Despite the legions of funny helpers like fairies, yetis, and walking eggs, they call in the help of Jack Frost, a rebellious, adolescent type who has become isolated and invisible because nobody believes in him anymore. This computer animated film – they keep being released, and people keep eating them up – was made by DreamWorks Animation, just like Madagascar, Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, and How to Train Your Dragon. Visually, it is stunning, and I can imagine that a ten-year-old boy would enjoy the adventure, the humour, and the dazzling action scenes. Most adults will dislike the heroes’ hyper-enthusiastic shouts during their umpteenth daredevil flight into the air.
