Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials

Just like The Hunger Games and Divergent, The Maze Runner is a fantasy franchise for and with young adults. First, they have to survive in a big, bad world, and later have to take their responsibility in the struggle against totalitarianism. In the second part of The Maze Runner, the young people who survived the deadly labyrinth discover that they have gone from the frying pan into the fire. Pursued by the WCKD authorities, they enter a post-apocalyptic world full of danger, such as half zombies and the managers of nightclubs who spike your drink, making you kiss the wrong girl. Don’t expect too much from the shallow story, not to mention the total lack of character development, painful simplicity, and the quantity of dialogue of the type: “Hurry up”, “Be careful”, “Go on”, and “Watch out”. Nevertheless, it is perfectly understandable that the series is incredibly popular. Director Wes Ball keeps the pace up, and the many action scenes are really quite exciting.

Ils doivent d’abord apprendre à survivre dans un monde vaste et hostile et ensuite prendre leur responsabilité dans le combat contre le totalitarisme. Dans la deuxième partie de The Maze Runner, les jeunes héros qui ont survécu au labyrinthe mortel découvrent qu’ils sont tombés de Charybde en Scylla. Pourchassés par les autorités de WCKD, ils se retrouvent dans un monde post-apocalyptique rempli de dangers. Comme des demi-zombies et les exploitants de lieux de fête qui vous font boire des boissons hallucinogènes à cause desquelles on embrasse la mauvaise fille. Le mieux, c’est ne pas trop attendre de la très mince intrigue, de ne pas prêter attention à l’évolution minimale des jeunes personnages, de rester aveugle aux simplifications et sourd à la grande quantité de dialogues qui varient entre « Dépêche-toi », « Attention » et « Cours ». Mais on comprend toutefois que la franchise ramène du monde. Le réalisateur Wes Ball maintient le tempo à un haut niveau et les nombreuses scènes d’action sont vraiment palpitantes.

Zij moeten eerst leren om te overleven in de grote, boze wereld en later om verantwoordelijkheid te nemen in de strijd tegen het totalitarisme. In het tweede deel van The maze runner ontdekken de jongeren die het dodelijke labyrint overleefd hebben dat ze van de regen in de drop zijn beland. Achtervolgd door de WCKD-autoriteit komen ze in een postapocalyptische wereld vol gevaren terecht. Zoals halve zombies en uitbaters van feesttenten die je drugsdrankjes doen drinken waarna je het verkeerde meisje zoent. Je doet er goed aan om weinig te verwachten van het niet eens afgeronde verhaal, niet te letten op de geringe evolutie van de jonge helden, blind te zijn voor de simplismen en doof voor de grote hoeveelheid dialoog die varieert op “haast je”, “pas op”, “ga voort”, “kijk uit.” Toch is het begrijpelijk dat de franchise volk op de been brengt. Regisseur Wes Ball houdt het tempo strak en de vele actiescènes zijn best spannend.
