AMERICAN BEAUTY! Escaping the reach of the Twitter empire of His Orange Highness, there are still some bright stars on the American literary firmament. Every other year, many of them come to Paris for the America Festival, and Flagey has invited two authors as a teaser for that event.
THE POWERS THAT BE? Absolutely, these two are no less than royalty! Colson Whitehead is the author of the mind-boggling history of slavery The Underground Railroad (National Book Award and Pulitzer Prize). He will be joined by the literary demi-god Richard Powers, who is coming to present his mighty The Overstory.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT? In 2015, Sinéad Gleeson cast a spotlight on the age-old Irish short story tradition in The Long Gaze Back. By selecting only female authors, she also revised our skewed view of this tradition. In April, the One City One Book festival brought the whole of Dublin together around this “feast of female voices” in one enormous book club. Passa Porta is now doing the same again.

Il a appris les textes par cœur pour les restituer avec légèreté en se laissant guider par deux ou trois accords. Et les fleurs se sont épanouies dans toute leur musicalité.

VOLKSHELD? Bij Passa Porta komt Kehlmann spreken over zijn nieuwste roman Tijl, waarin hij de deugenietende volksheld in de Dertigjarige Oorlog dropt. “Zijn beste roman tot nu toe” volgens de Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
